These two shots were taken back in October during one of the most perfect days for landscape photography I’ve ever experienced. The early morning air was cool and dry and the sky a perfect cobalt blue. High, thin cirrus clouds were moving swiftly across the horizon providing a beautiful background for my shots of Enchanted Rock.
Looking up at the steep trail in front of me all thoughts of my age and lower back problems faded away. My only concern was ascending the hill as quickly as possible to capture as much of this beauty as possible before the light changed. Strangely enough, this incredibly soft but vibrant light lasted most of the day and into the early evening. It was a rare and beautiful gift I’ll never forget.

Shot taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II set on aperture priority (Av) using an EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens tripod-mounted. The exposure was taken at 24mm, f/8 for 1/50th of a second at ISO 100 using a Singh-Ray warming polarizer filter. All post capture processing was done in Adobe’s Lightroom 3 Beta.
