On the Wings of a Dream

I was wandering around the Brazos Bend State Park again this weekend and noticed the vultures (almost looks like a hawk from here) circling above looking for a meal. The day was mostly cloudy with an occasional break in the clouds revealing a cobalt blue sky.

I decided to see what kind of birds I could capture using my Canon 40D with an EF 70-200mm f/4 L lens and a Canon EF 1.4x II extender attached. This setup on a full-frame body like a Canon 5D will give you a crisp 280mm f/5.6 to work with. On my 40D this setup provides an "effective" 448mm f/5.6, which is fairly decent for less than $1000.

Boy, what I wouldn't give for an EF 500mm f/4.0 L IS lens to use with my new 1.4x extender!
