Just as there's something magical about early morning light, the last few rays of sunshine in the late evening are golden (pardon the pun). After a long and exciting day of nature photography, there's nothing better than a great location to sit and wait for those last few rays of sunshine to turn your subject into a wonderful mosaic of warmth and color.
I have a confession to make. I really hate getting up before dawn. Period. The only reason I do it is to capture those wonderful few moments of early morning light. Morning light changes very quickly and the photographer had better keep up or miss the opportunity. Evening light lingers, slowly changing it's tone and texture.
I much prefer the late evening when it's OK to sit and rest for a few moments. When you can take some time to reflect and think about composition and the play between light and shadow in your scene. When you know that you have time to take as many exposures as you want as the sun slowly sinks in the west.

Shot taken with a Canon EOS 50D set on aperture priority (Av) using an EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM tripod-mounted. The exposure was taken at 88mm, f/13 for 1/10th of a second at ISO 100 on Lexar Professional digital film and post capture processed in Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS4.
